From the Toronto Star:

Revue Cinema rescued

Reviving a cinema to preserve a neighbourhood Cheri DiNovo, the MPP for Parkdale-High Park, is standing under a black-and-white photo of the old Revue Cinema marquee, the actual marquee having suddenly collapsed right off the building some months ago.Closed theatre bought by working-class hero from Liverpool, who lets film society take over

Look forward to seeing when it gets off its feet again the theater has a good feel for it given its age and history I always felt comfy within its walls.

Travel back to 1988 Toronto. This is a cutdown of what aired most late nights on Global. Apparently its largest audience consisted of prisoners. A nice glimpse of the city almost 20 years ago.

Vampire movie opening next weekend called "Rise: Blood Hunter" with Lucy Liu http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/rise/index.html had not heard of it before though like the thought of Lucy Liu with fangs :) curious if its any good.

Plot Summary: "Rise" is a supernatural thriller in which a reporter (Liu) wakes up in a morgue to discover she is no longer among the living. She vows revenge against the cult responsible for putting her there and hunts them down one by one. Chiklis plays 'Rawlins,' a haunted police detective whose daughter is killed by the same cult and seeks answers for her gruesome death.

I am enjoying the previews for GRINDHOUSE looks like a good double bill - will need to watch it in a second run theater too get the best feel for it will have to keep a look out failing that will have to force myself into some big hub theater.

I am hoping I might win a prize pack come monday for an early sceening howver passes and such have been limited latly so *narf* we shall see.

Failing that anyone up for seeing GRINDHOUSE next weekend either on good friday or Sat night? * after 5 pm? *

Work has been well work , nothing overly exciting on that front - and some filler items since I last posted not really worth mentioning.

Some how I managed to slice my foot on something though like the gash I had on my head I have no idea whilst it came. Perhaps like RedDwarf if was aliens trying to tell me something....

Rimmer: Somehow we've lost the last four days.
Cat: Did you look behind the fridge? If you lose something it's nearly always there.
Lister: OK, aliens came aboard.
Rimmer: Without question.
Lister: They broke my leg.
Rimmer: For some reason.
Cat: They broke my leg.
Rimmer: Right.
Holly: And then they did a jigsaw.
Rimmer: Right.
Rimmer: Maybe, maybe, OK? Breaking your leg hurts like hell, OK? Hel. They do it below the knee, lo. "Hel-lo," get it? They do it twice - twice, two. "Hello two." And the jigsaw must mean "you." "Hello to you"!
Cat: I wouldn't like to be around when one of these suckers is making a speech!

back to the void -

A little bit Jayne and a little bit Book sorta a little bit country a little bit rock n' Roll ? ... lol reminds me of my placement test in high school. For now will combine it with the results from the sin city test , I identify more with Marv.

I am happy tomorrow is friday , this week has draged on 12 hr work days then work at home moving stuff etc. Hit my head somewhere left a nice red gash mark , must be worst then I think it was everyone keeps asking if I am okay - lol , tell em I don't rember how I got it just that its swore , think I must have hit it kinda hard.

Have a busy day tomorrow and early day at work - Sat will have to work again as well , then have to be sherpa and take my mother and aunt in the bowls of the city and bring em up near the ACC for a Leafs game , was able to score some decent seats as an xmass gift for the mother unit. She seems happy enough as she came to Toronto in '66 I think and has been a big Leaf fan since then , but never been to a game so in her late 50's can now go :D so feel good that I can be usefull at times.

In other news my computer power supply died this week think it took my drives / mother board with it , have to tinker with it some more though have not had time yet. I only had a chance to replace the power supply which fixed one problems and left others. That will hopefully be a chunk of my Sunday.

Revue Cinema Marquee Collapses
Torontoist Flickr pool contributor bitefight brings us photos of the shuttered Revue cinema, which suffered a spectacular collapse of its marquee yesterday. The structure fell Sunday morning around 3 a.m. and there were no apparent injuries. The drippy marquee was well-known for its tendency to collect snow and water, and it seems that the weight of the recent snowfall is the cause behind the collapse.

Weird to think how many times I have stood under that Marquee with friends -

Also I have been trying out "JAMAN" http://www.jaman.com/ I am listed under starbug - Its a decent world video rent or buy as you go site, at the moment they are testing a beta version which is nice and zippy and offering free rentals.

When they are up and running I think week rentals will be $1.99 and to buy will be $4.99 some good stuff so far , I have not had alot of free time so far I have checked out

- Alias
- Black Magic 2
- Robots Are Blue
- Soft for Digging
- The Dual

Hopefull will get a chance to look though more this weekend - so partake if you can , and feel free to add me to your contacts am under starbug.

Grindhouse [Feb. 18th, 2007|07:19 pm]

The Lady with the Machine Gun Leg ... shown artfully in the poster above , if you click on the poster its a nice trailer with Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez talking about the movie has got me rev'd up looking forward to seeing this movie and 300 in the next couple of months are my must see movies - so if your intown and want a movie night :) .

If your afraid to take the plunge will offer moral support and a free movie ticket to a number of ppl my treat as I love to see others reaction to films like Grindhouse - I mean click on the poster above and see the girl with the machine gun leg in action - how could any sane man pass that up ;)

Weekend over all was good Aussie expo was different though then I
expected it to be bigger given their set up and resources, I was skimming though some of the material tho expensive enough is a part of the world I want to visit before leaving this rock on the big good by tour.

The Epo enclosed a good portion of dundas square and also included a croc, a giant (child easting suspected)Koala bear and a giant snake sans plane. Though a surprise no John Travolta advertising for Qantas Airways as your piolit to down under ... - though some nice australian accents.

The company was also good and perhaps a vision of "The Pickle Tank" will haunt my night terrors until I fill out the patient :p
